Exosomes are one of the most innovative ingredients in anti-ageing cosmetics. But they are not all the same: there are plant exosomes and exosomes of animal origin. Let's see what changes and why ELAXO has chosen plant-based ones.
What are exosomes
Exosomes are extracellular vesicles: tiny natural "messengers" that cells use to communicate with each other. In cosmetics they are studied because they can convey useful signals to support the renewal of the skin's appearance and enhance the action of other active ingredients.
Plant exosomes
Plant exosomes derive from plants and fruits — in ELAXO formulas, for example, from Centella Asiatica (in the Serum) and from watermelon and grapefruit (in the Cream). They offer several advantages:
- Plant origin, relevant to ingredient sourcing choices
- Good tolerability and safety profile
- Richness of plant antioxidant components
- Traceability of the raw material
Exosomes of animal origin
Some exosomes used in research are derived from animal sources or cell cultures. They can raise questions about sustainability, traceability and ethical acceptability, as well as regulatory aspects. For this reason, in cosmetic skincare, plant origin today represents the most transparent choice.
Why ELAXO chooses plant exosomes
ELAXO uses exclusively plant exosomes, integrated with PDRN and biotechnological peptides within a complementary cosmetic formula. Centella Asiatica exosomes help strengthen the skin barrier and enhance the action of PDRN; those of watermelon and grapefruit give brightness and an antioxidant action. Frequently asked questions
Are plant exosomes suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes, they are generally well tolerated. As always, read the INCI and test on a small area of skin.
Do exosomes replace PDRN?
No: they work in synergy. PDRN supports the renewal of the skin's appearance, the exosomes strengthen the barrier and enhance the overall action of the formula.
Are ELAXO serum or cream vegan?
No: the plant choice is about exosomes. PDRN (Sodium DNA), another key active in ELAXO formulas, is of marine origin — obtained from salmon DNA. We prefer to say it clearly, without simplifications.
In ELAXO formulas
The N°1 PDRN Face Serum contains plant exosomes of Centella Asiatica, PDRN and Hexapeptide-12; N°2 PDRN Face Cream contains watermelon and grapefruit plant exosomes, PDRN and Pentapeptide-17. They are used one after the other, even together in the Ritual. → Discover ELAXO formulas with plant exosomes
