Yes, PDRN can be used with retinol, vitamin C, niacinamide and exfoliating acids. But avoid introducing everything at once or applying everything together. The practical rule is simple: use potentially irritating ingredients at different times, and apply PDRN after cleansing, to clean skin.
This article answers a very practical question: I already have a routine. Where can I add PDRN without disrupting it?
Why this question matters
People interested in skincare rarely start from scratch. They may already use retinol at night, vitamin C in the morning and an exfoliant twice a week. Adding a new ingredient raises two questions: will they cancel each other out? And will my skin become irritated?
With PDRN, the answer is generally reassuring, but needs context. If you are unfamiliar with it, start with what PDRN is and how it works on the skin.
PDRN and retinol
They can be compatible, but using them at different times is a sensible starting point.
Retinol is among the most extensively studied anti-ageing ingredients, and can also be demanding: during the first weeks, it may cause dryness, flaking and sensitivity. PDRN has a different profile and is generally well tolerated in cosmetic formulations.
There is no established general chemical incompatibility between the two. What matters is the overall burden on your skin: if you are introducing retinol and your skin is reacting, wait before adding another product.
In practice: use PDRN in the morning and retinol at night. If you prefer evening use for both, alternate nights. If your skin has tolerated retinol for months, you may be able to use both in your evening routine, applying the PDRN serum first, subject to each product's directions.

PDRN and vitamin C
Generally compatible. This is often a straightforward pairing.
Vitamin C is commonly used in the morning; PDRN can be used morning and evening. They do not have an established general incompatibility.
Take particular care with vitamin C formulas at a very acidic pH, such as pure ascorbic acid. Let one product absorb before applying the next, and follow the directions for both formulas rather than assuming that waiting a few minutes guarantees compatibility.
In practice: apply vitamin C to clean skin, let it absorb, then apply the PDRN serum. Or use vitamin C in the morning and PDRN at night for an even simpler routine.
PDRN and niacinamide
Generally compatible, with no specific precaution beyond checking the complete formulas.
Niacinamide is usually well tolerated and combines with many skincare ingredients. Some products already contain both niacinamide and PDRN; ELAXO formulas do not contain niacinamide. To understand an ingredient list, learn how to read the INCI. Its order alone does not reveal exact concentrations.
PDRN and exfoliating acids (AHA, BHA)
They can fit into the same routine, but separate evenings are a cautious approach.
Extra care is sensible here because exfoliating acids remove cells from the skin's outermost layer and may leave it more sensitive afterwards.
In practice: reserve an evening for exfoliation, and use PDRN on other evenings. If you exfoliate twice a week, that leaves five evenings for the rest of your routine.
The general application order
A useful skincare rule is to apply products from the lightest texture to the richest. Water-based serums first, creams next, oils last, unless a product's directions specify otherwise.
A typical PDRN routine:
Morning
1. Cleanser
2. Vitamin C, if used
3. A few drops of PDRN serum, applied with upward movements
4. Moisturiser
5. Sunscreen — a central step in limiting the visible effects of sun exposure
Evening
1. Cleanser
2. PDRN serum
3. Cream
(or, on dedicated evenings: cleanser → retinol or exfoliant → cream)

Three common mistakes
Introducing everything at once
If you add three new ingredients in one week and your skin reacts, it will be difficult to identify the cause. Introduce one at a time, several days apart.
Applying products to wet skin
Some ingredients penetrate more readily on damp skin, which may increase irritation. Pat your skin dry first when the product directions recommend it.
Changing everything too soon
Skin renewal takes time and varies from person to person. Hydration is often noticed before a more even appearance or improved firmness. Judging an entire routine after just two weeks can be premature.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use PDRN every day?
Cosmetic PDRN formulas are intended for daily use, morning and evening, according to their directions. If your skin is very reactive, start once a day during the first week.
Does PDRN go before or after cream?
A PDRN serum goes before cream: apply it to cleansed skin, then apply your cream.
If I already use retinol, do I still need PDRN?
They are different ingredients with different mechanisms. Neither automatically replaces the other, and using both is optional. If your routine works and your skin feels comfortable, there is no urgency to add another product.
Can I use it during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, ask your doctor before introducing any new active ingredient. A brand should not replace that individual advice.
Should I avoid it if I have sensitive skin?
Not necessarily, but try it on a small area first, such as the inner arm, and wait 24 hours. This is sensible for any new product. Read more in PDRN contraindications and side effects.
In ELAXO formulas
In the routine above, step 3 is the N°1 PDRN Face Serum and step 4 is the N°2 PDRN Face Cream. They are used morning and evening and can be fitted around evening retinol or morning vitamin C, depending on individual tolerance and product directions. Together, they form the Ritual.
